Sardinia
is located in the hearth of the western
Mediterranean and is the second largest island
and every it attracts thousands of people, who
are bewitched by the area, its climate and its
coasts. Sardinia means unspoiled nature with an
incredible array of forms, colours and perfumes,
means thousands of
years of history, it was the crossroads and
meeting point for the greatest civilisations.
Sardinia
means traditional cuisine, it is an island that
carefully and jealously guards its customs which,
through the centuries has been able to preserve
the simplicity of its pastoral origins, offering
unforgettable delicacies where the aromas,
flavours, and quality of wholesome local produce
from land and sea are combined with its splendid

"This
land is similar to no other place" is
how famous English author, D. H. Lawrence
described Sardinia. Ogliastra,
overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea from the east
coast of Sardinia, is a
fairly recent discovery in touristic places,
with its beautiful coasts and mountainous
interior. An uncontaminated area considered on
of the most fascinating and characteristic
places on the island.
Its
territory, wedged between sea and mountain,
offers a vast array of unique landscapes. A
paradise of remarkable beauty situated along the
eastern side of Sardinia, where nature is at its
best.
Some
people think that the name Ogliastra derives
from the wild olive trees growing in great
numbers in the region, but more credited sources
link it to the Agugliastra, a huge
monolith overlooking the sea.

The
Ogliastra coasts are splendid oases set between
sea and rock, rugged nature to dazzle us with
some of the most fascinating marine landscapes
of the Mediterranean. Leaving from the north we
encounter the renowned coves of Cala Luna,
Cala Sisine, Cala Mariolu and Cala
Goloritzé, accessible only by boat or
on foot; further south there are the beaches of
Orrě, Cea, Cardedu, Coccorrocci and the
gulf of Sarrala. According
to the "Guide to the nature of Sardinia"
of F. Pratesi and G.Tassi, with
reference to the Coast of Baunei :"there
is not elsewhere perhaps in our country a so
ample and unknown arc of coast: 40 km of
bastions and calcareous cliffs, just interrupted
here and there from few cale, probably the most
beautiful line of the Italian shore in absolute
sense and without shade of doubt thesourrer and
wild..." |

Enchanting,
too is the landscape that climbs up the hills as
far as the Gennargentu mountains, indulging the
eyes with scenarios of rare beauty. Ogliastra
is a land that must be relished slowly, it
deserves more than just the hurried glance of
conventional tourism and coveried around 1700
square Km with a host of varied landscapes. The
entire territory is scattered with
archaeological monuments, well-worth visiting: Nuraghi,
Domus de Janas, Tombe dei Giganti and
Menhir, the symbols of the
passage of millennia and of local history and
culture. forming the backdrop to its wild,
isolated bays that sit betweenthe rocks and the
sea and to the enchanting and varied natural
landscapes with their myriad forms. |

One
can follow trekking itineraries to the discovery
of unforgettable places on foot, horseback or by
bike, car or land-rover; walking from
the mountains towards the sea following
underground waterways amid century old forests,
flowers, wild animals to reach incredibly
beautiful coves.
For
those who prefer to travel via the sea, an
excursion aboard one of the many motor-boats
that cruise along the coast is ideal. A paradise
of priceless beauty with its culture, its people
and its hospitality.

harmony of this land.
